This past week at Smith Elementary there were parent conferences going on as well and in talking with and as I just observed the conferences and heard from my classroom teacher about all the time and preparation that went into these conferences I learned so much. Although, I have to say the biggest thing I took away is that if you stay ahead of the game, then when the game hits head on, you will be ready to play the game, and will be prepared and ready for that challenge.

Christina's Capturing Thoughts Blog on Parent Teacher Confrences
I saw Professor Chatel's post to Anna suggesting that she visit Christina's blog on parent teacher conferences, and I decided to check this out for myself. I really appreciate all of Christina's time and effort that she put into finding this site and laying out the suggestions for all of us to see. As future teachers her blog offers a great layout of starters for how to hold an effective parent teacher conference.

I too, viewed Chrsitina's blog and found it very helpful. I think that there were many great points that I didn't realize or even think of until reviewing the ideas.
I like your idea of staying on top of things and making sure that you are always prepared. It just seems to me that it is going to be hard to do that when you have to be ahead of the game with more than twenty students. It seems that the conferences come so easy...i just hope that it is.
Quick question: Are we going to be in charge on running the whole conference during our student teaching? Talking about all these pressure made me wonder, if everything is going to be our responsibility.
I agree with your comment that being prepared helps the conferences go by more smoothly. My teacher had a last minute conference with a mother (she had to reschedule for personal reasons) and he had to scramble to get prepared. I could imagine how stressful not being ready for these conferences could be for teachers! I'm sure that it is easy to fall into the trap of not getting ready ahead of time. Tina made an excellent point that being prepared for twenty plus students could potentially be extremely difficult.
I was actually wondering the same thing about conferences during student teaching; I hope that we are not alone without guidance from our cooperating teachers! I don't think we are prepared for doing conferences solo - we should ask about that!
